RIOPA Constitution

Roosevelt Industrial & Organizational Psychology Association (RIOPA) Constitution

 

ARTICLE I: NAME

 

The name of the organization shall be: Roosevelt Industrial and Organizational Psychology Association, RIOPA.

 

ARTICLE II: MISSION STATEMENT

 

“Our mission is to create an environment that fosters professional development and provides the resources for our fellow students to be successful in future endeavors.”

 

ARTICLE III: PURPOSE AND PROCEDURE

 

The purpose of the organization shall be:

  1. To inform I/O psychology students attending Roosevelt University in events relating to the program

  2. Plan speakers and lecturers for the student body

  3. Plan networking events and workshops for students and faculty

  4. Promote communication between I/O students and faculty

  5. To advertise the organization, activities, and events

  6. To act as a liaison between various I/O Psychology organizations and Roosevelt University

  7. Perform other duties or responsibilities as deemed necessary

 

ARTICLE IV: MEMBERSHIP

 

Section A. General Membership

  1. Membership in this organization shall be open to students enrolled in the I/O psychology Master’s or Ph.D. programs at Roosevelt University

 

Section B. Associated Membership

  1. Associated membership shall consist of Roosevelt University Faculty and Alumni as well as other Roosevelt University students

  2. Associated members are welcome to attend all meetings and events but will have no voting rights in RIOPA elections

 

ARTICLE V: EXECUTIVE MEMBERS

 

Section A. President

  1. Responsibilities

    1. The president is responsible for the proper functioning of the organization by maintaining the current organizational progress as well as looking for innovative ways to help RIOPA improve and grow. He or she is responsible for working closely with the faculty advisor and executive board. The president must be able to direct and coordinate organizational activities.

  2. Additional Responsibilities include:

    1. Register RIOPA as an organization with the center for student life’s office(s) at the Chicago and Schaumburg Campus before the start of each semester

    2. Attend Mandatory Center for Student Life meetings

    3. Conduct executive and general meetings

    4. Run new officer elections

    5. Coordinate fundraising efforts

    6. Coordinate organizational events

    7. Complete event proposals

    8. Perform other tasks as needed

  3. Qualifications

    1. Someone who enjoys working in teams, is confident coordinating and leading meetings, is professional, innovative, motivated, detail-oriented, and can communicate/delegate tasks and responsibilities to others efficiently

 

Section B. Executive Vice President

  1. Responsibilities

    1. Work closely with the President

    2. Work in close collaboration with the Executive Board

    3. Act as a student liaison to address any feedback or concerns of the students in the I/O program

    4. Manage and coordinate events and activities with internal and external resources

    5. Assumes the role and responsibilities of the president if he or she is unable to fulfill his/her duties

    6. Perform other tasks as needed

  2. Qualifications

    1. Should have similar characteristics as presidential position

 

Section C. Vice President of Finance

  1. Responsibilities

    1. Manage fundraising activities

    2. Manage all funds

    3. Complete funding proposals

    4. Work in close collaboration with the Executive Board and Faculty Advisor

    5. Attend SAFAC (Student Activities Funding Allocation Committee) meetings

    6. Perform other tasks as needed

  2. Qualifications

    1. Detail-oriented and interested in getting funding for the organization

    2. Trustworthy with money

 

Section D. Vice President of Communications

  1. Responsibilities

    1. Manage Communications and Public Relations for RIOPA

    2. Maintain a useful web presence through social networking and stand-alone websites

    3. Work closely with Executive Board and Faculty Advisor(s)

    4. Distribute communication between RIOPA Executive Board and its members

    5. Distribute surveys

    6. Perform other tasks as needed

  2. Qualifications

    1. Basic knowledge of website and social media technology

    2. Strong editing skills and ability to convey messages concisely

    3. Detail-oriented and creative

 

Section E. Secretary

  1. Responsibilities

    1. Record and upload meeting minutes

    2. Coordinate events with Executive Vice President

    3. Assist VP of Finance with fundraising activities

    4. Help with updating social media and other sources with activities and relevant information

    5. Work in close collaboration with the Executive Board

    6. Perform other tasks as needed

  2. Qualifications

    1. Must be adaptable and able to multitask

    2. Detail oriented and excellent organization and clerical skills

 

ARTICLE VI: OTHER ROLES

 

Section A. RIOPA Ambassadors

  1. Responsibilities

    1. Responsible for acting as the main point of contact between Roosevelt University and other organizations (e.g., CIOP, MPA, IPA, PSI CHI, other Universities/Colleges, etc.)

    2. Attend outside organizational events when possible and report any pertinent information to the Executive Board and general student body as needed

    3. Perform other tasks as needed

  2. RIOPA Ambassadors will be appointed in the fall semester for the academic year after an application process to be determined by the Executive Board and Faculty Advisors

 

Section B. Faculty Advisor(s)

  1. Responsibilities

    1. Available to answer any questions from RIOPA members

    2. Offer guidance for RIOPA Executive Board

    3. Attend Executive Board and general meetings as needed

 

ARTICLE VII: EXECUTIVE BOARD POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

 

  1. Attendance Policy of Executive Board

    1. All Executive Board members will be allowed to miss no more than three meetings

      1. Includes a combination of official board meetings and RIOPA general meetings

      2. More than three absences will result in a membership review by the Executive Board and Faculty Advisor(s) to decide if Board membership should be revoked

  2. Withdrawal of Membership

    1. Executive Board and RIOPA Advisor(s) have the right to remove a member if absences or conduct are deemed detrimental to the organization

    2. Executive Members have the right to revoke their positions

    3. Removal of any Executive Board member constitutes an appointed or voted replacement

 

ARTICLE VIII: ELECTIONS

 

  1. The executive officers shall be elected to serve by popular vote following the nominations in the spring by simple majority voting

  2. If positions are for any reason not filled in the spring elections, other elections for those positions can be held in the fall semester

  3. Nominations for the positions will be collected one week prior to elections

  4. Officers shall be nominated by current students, faculty, or self-nomination

  5. Ballots will be distributed via online voting tool and voting will be open for one week

  6. In the occasion of a run off, running nominees must win by a majority plus one vote

  7. Results will be announced after votes have been counted

 

ARTICLE IX: MEETING TIMES

 

Section A. Executive Board Meetings

  1. Executive Board meetings shall be held in person or via videoconferencing unless otherwise specified by RIOPA board.

  2. Meetings will be held regularly throughout the semester

 

Section B. General Meetings

  1. Scheduled organization meetings shall be held in person or via video-conferencing as specified by the RIOPA board

  2. Meetings will be held regularly throughout the semester

 

ARTICLE X: AFFILIATION

 

Section A. Roosevelt University (RU)

  1. This organization is a recognized student organization at the Roosevelt University, but is not part of the University itself

  2. In all correspondence and business transactions, it may refer to itself as an organization at RU, but not as part of RU itself

  3. RIOPA accepts full financial and production responsibility for all activities it sponsors

  4. RIOPA agrees to abide by all pertinent RU policies and regulations. Where RU policies and regulations and those of RIOPA differ, the policies and regulations of RU will take precedence

 

Section B. Local Affiliations

  1. Industrial & Organizational Psychology Department at Roosevelt University (RUIO)

  2. Chicago Industrial-Organizational Psychology (CIOP)

 

ARTICLE XI. FINANCIAL MATTERS

 

Registered campus organizations must follow the Roosevelt University Policies Applying to Campus Activities, Organizations, and Students in all financial matters and accept full responsibility for all activities that bear the organization’s name as official sponsor.

 

ARTICLE XII: AMENDMENTS

 

  1. All amendments to this constitution must first be proposed to both the Executive Board and the Faculty Advisor(s)

  2. Amendments to the constitution must be approved by a majority vote of the organizational (RIOPA) membership

  3. All RIOPA members shall receive notice of the proposed amendment at least five days before the vote

 

 

 

 

This constitution was accepted with majority vote on Thursday September 12th, 2013.
